When people ask me what inspires me, I often talk about Cornwall’s coast. However there is another truly inspiring place in Cornwall which is so open and so wild and rugged. I love to walk through what is known locally as ‘Clay Country’ in St Austell. This area surrounds my local village. You can see for miles and as it is quite high up on the hills, the breeze is brisk and refreshing! Perfect for blowing the cobwebs away, thinking, taking stock and getting new ideas and inspiration.
I love the crooked shape of the trees which grow across the hills, over previously mined areas now covered with grassland and local wildlife such as rabbits and the occasional deer! Lots of birdlife too.
I find the wind which blows across the hills so refreshing and as a creative, there are days when your head is full of ideas, too full infact. On days like this, a walk high up on the hills help clear my head. It feels like time slows down here allowing me to take breath and be in the moment. By the time I reach home, my soul feels uplifted and lighter and my creative ‘inner eye’ is more focused.
I had many a happy walk with the family beagles, Molly and Toby. Sadly whilst they have crossed over the rainbow bridge (we do miss them so much) here is a photo of Molly on one of our days out roaming the area around my village.
My partner found this walk during lockdown. A pretty stream which you can walk alongside for quite a long way. Such peace and quite listening to the water trickling right next to you. Beautiful!
So when you’re next feeling you need some fresh air, pop out to discover new areas on your doorstep. Go for a walk, clear your head, take quality time out for yourself. Then you’ll find the creative ideas flow more easily. If nothing else, you’ll feel a lot more refreshed! I hope you enjoyed this latest blog…more coming soon!
